DOT-what? “DOTMLPFI” DOTMLPFI stands for Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and education, Personnel, Facilities and Interoperability.
The US DoD predominantly uses the DOTMLPF acronym and NATO and international Ministries of Defense (MoDs) prefer the DOTMLPFI term, which includes the “I” for Interoperability. Most US senior military officers and defense acquisition officials have been formally trained in DOTMLPF capability-based acquisition per CJCS Instruction 3170 and the DoD 5000 series directives.
